The CVBTB currently consists of four brain tumour tissue banking sites and is continuously looking for more institutions to be a part of the CVBTB. If your institution would like to become a part of the CVBTB, please contact the CVBTB coordinator.

Toronto Western Hospital - Toronto, Ontario
The Nervous System Tissue Bank (NSTB) is currently housed at Toronto Western Hospital in Toronto, Ontario in the Krembil Neuroscience Research Tower. Dr. Abhijit Guha, a neurosurgeon and scientist working at Toronto Western Hospital, established the NSTB in 1993 and currently acts as director of the bank. The initial start up funds for the NSTB were obtained through the generous donation of a patient’s family, with some on-going funding from the Division of Neurosurgery Chairman’s Fund and recently the Alan & Susan Hudson Chair in Neurooncology, which Dr. Guha holds. The NSTB has also received funding in the past from two peer reviewed grants and on-going patient donations. Presently, the NSTB is home to thousands of brain and spinal tissue samples and continues to accrue and send out samples to researchers every year.

London Health Sciences Centre - London, Ontario
The London Brain Tumour Tissue Bank has been collecting adult and paediatric brain tumour specimens since its establishment in 1991 and it has provided these samples and matching clinical data for researchers throughout the world. A wide variety of frozen and formalin-fixed primary and secondary brain tumours are available. Rigorous histological quality control excludes 'poor' samples that contain extensive necrosis, haemorrhage, fibrosis or cautery artifact. In addition, all glioma samples are classified in terms of whether the sample is from the tumour 'centre' or from the infiltrated margins of the tumour - a semi quantitative assessment of the extent of infiltration is also provided. The Bank is based at the London Health Sciences Centre (University Hospital), London, Ontario, under the auspices of the Departments of Pathology and Clinical Neurological Sciences. The Bank is funded by the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada (BTFC). Further information about the Bank is available at www.braintumourbank.com
